Joplin Missouri August 2 Joseph Clary 33 was rescued after being trapped seventy two feet underground in a mine drift for three days He plans to resume mining tomorrow if doctors authorize It was a tense operation with air nourishment drilling and cheering crowds as Clary was brought to the surface and treated by physicians before returning home with his family

Des Moines July 2 Des Moines Carmen and conductors on the 4th railway are ready to strike after manager Harrigan refused arbitration and a conference. Hotels refuse housing for strike breakers and a hotel kitchen and dining room staff walked out upon learning they would serve them.
Havana August 2 bones found yesterday in the ward room of the battleship Maine were identified as those of Assistant Engineer Merritt based on skull configuration. The bones lay where Midshipman Boyd testified the two were separated by water as they tried to reach the main deck.
Fire last night wiped out the little town of Pollock in Campbell County South Dakota. Telegraph and telephone wires are down and details are not obtainable. Pollock has a population of 259.
