President Harding slowly improves with physicians reporting progress and near elimination of danger. Visitors, planned travel questions, and baggage movements mark daily routines as doctors weigh a possible return to Washington by overland route when strength allows.
Denver area forecast notes New Mexico Thursday and Friday expect local thunder showers in the north portion and cooler east, with partly cloudy southern areas. Arizona shows Thursday fair to possibly shower north portion and Friday fair with unsettled northeast.

General Charles E. Sawyer, Harding's personal physician, reported that the president's temperature remained normal all day and his breathing was less labored. He noted that recovery would be tedious with likely ups and downs, though indications looked favorable.

Denver Aug 1 Thomas H Beacom former vice president of Rock Island railroad was appointed receiver of the Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad by Federal Judge J Foster Symes He will succeed Joseph H Young who resigned.
Ex Governor A. Larrazolo of New Mexico, now a Albuquerque lawyer, predicts swift official recognition of President Obregon’s government following talks in Mexico City. He says nearer U.S.-Mexico commercial ties, rebuilt Mexican industries, and vast natural resources would attract American investment, with Mexico’s oil, silver, timber, and farmland offering major opportunities. He notes Mexico’s stability and peace would follow recognition.
A U S circuit court of appeals confirms a $22,776.65 judgment awarded to Walter S. Dickey of Kansas City against the Roswell drainage district of New Mexico for contracted work. Both sides claimed the other violated contract terms in the dispute over the New Mexico project.
Berlin August 1 The Associated Press reports a Hamburg Munich express collided with a standing train at Kremsen station killing 47 and injuring 37. The engineer reportedly could not see signals, and the locomotive crashed through the other train leaving many bodies unidentifiable.
Fire destroys Stormfield the country home near Redding Connecticut where Samuel L Clemens known as Mark Twain spent his later years causing a reported loss of 175000 Mrs Margaret E Givens of New York and her son Eben and daughter Thelma narrowly escaped death in the blaze
Leadville Colorado August 1 Joseph Dunn 60 a widely known rancher was shot to death in a dispute over cattle. Thomas M H Walker 53 a Texas Oil Co agent near Matt a Cole ranch said Dunn fired first and three more shots followed before he fell Mortally wounded Dunn died at the scene. Walker surrendered to the sheriff.
Criminal complaints filed in Tempe Justice Court accuse W. J. Kingsbury and three co defendants of conspiring to obtain money under false representations after a vault fire destroyed records at Farmers and Merchants Bank of Tempe. Thornton Jones Jr. also faces a separate charge for mutilating bank records.
Miss Zuell Simms sixteen year old daughter of Mr and Mrs A T Simms is recovering from a .22 caliber rifle wound. While shooting at a mark she caught the hammer on her clothing and the weapon discharged the ball pierced her leg.
Three bandits entered the Baltimore Trust Company on Commerce Street before banking hours in Baltimore and knocked out teller Russell K. Forsyth. They escaped with about $16,000 in bills.

Bids opened by the county for district 4 6 and 11 school buildings after revisions to specifications removed heating and lighting. Dan Lee a 19 year old stowaway was run over and cut in two at the waist by a moving train near Watsonville California. He survived for about 20 minutes and identified his mother as Mrs Nettle Lee of Indianapolis before dying. He spoke clearly to hospital staff and described attempting to escape the train when he fell under the wheels. Medical teams showed notable vitality and courage in attempting to save him.
Leonardo Valerio of Talpa Taos county accidentally discharged a trap gun set to kill a bear that was killing his sheep. His right arm was shattered and amputated after a 24 hour wait for medical care. he was carried from the mountain sheep camp to a doctor and is expected to recover.
New Orleans churches held evening services offering prayers for the speedy recovery of President Harding after his illness. The town joined in solemn observance as congregations prayed for his health and safe return to duty.
Washington Aug 1 The federal council of churches urged members of all denominations to pray for the recovery of President Harding. The appeal stressed unity in concern for the nation and health of the chief executive.
Senator Robert M. La Follette sails for Europe with four colleagues to study conditions for constituents and the league of nations. Swanson plans visits to Germany France England Switzerland Genoa and Moscow as part of a broader political inspection and possible 1932 nomination discussion.
