Jefferson City August 1 The trial of State Senator Frank H Harris on a charge of accepting a bribe to influence his vote on the alum bill began today in Missouri court proceedings.
In Beaufort, North Carolina, Sutton Davis, sixteen, was seized by a shark while waist deep in the sea as a crowd of bathers looked on. The incident occurred today near Norfolk Virginia.
Denver officials report the Denver and Rio Grande railroad will strike at 6 p m on August 2 after company officers refused to accept the brotherhood schedule or submit disputes to arbitration. Over 2 000 track and water service workers are affected.

New Orleans August 1. Relations between Louisiana and Mississippi have worsened from talks on concealment of cases to a serious issue. The Louisiana governor informed the naval brigade captain about sending a gunboat to the borders to protect Louisiana citizens from further indignities as Mississippi operates five armed boats along the coast to enforce quarantine lines.
A cloud burst north of Colorado Springs Saturday flooded the Rock Island line. The entry cut 160 feet wide and 20 feet deep filled with water. Rails three to four miles were buried under eight to ten feet of sand. Without the cut diverting the flood, nearby residential areas would have suffered enormous damage.

Tomorrow he will close offices where men stay with the union as a general tune-up is expected. Great Northern officials may arrive and by noon most men on both roads are expected out. Chairman Tanquary of the Order of Railway Telegraphers arrives to direct the fight.
