Three Die in Ranger Mexican Clash Near San Benito

In San Antonio July 31 three state rangers were killed and two wounded after a gunfight with Mexican assailants who were guiding authorities to hideouts of attackers in the Donnin Ban Henito waterworks murder case. The dead include Deputy Sheriff Henry Lawrence Ranger Carnes Anastino Trevino. The rangers were ambushed as they closed in on suspects tied to the engineer’s killing at a local dance hall a month earlier.

Night Marshal of Telluride Shot Dead

Arthur Gogelin night marshal of Telluride was shot and killed early this morning by Jesse Munn a miner. A posse searches the hills for Munn with a 1500 dollar reward offered. Police say Munn and Martin with two women caused a disturbance in the tenderloin district when Gogelin called Munn to quiet. Five shots rang out and Gogelin lay dead on the sidewalk while Munn fled. Martin has been arrested.

Life boat plans for Amelia dirigible voyage announced

Melvin Vaniman, returning from France with Walter Wellman, describes an American airship named Amelia to cross the Atlantic. The craft will carry a 25 by 9 foot unsinkable life boat stocked for thirty days and crewed by four specialists including a wireless operator reporting to major papers.

Mrs Cora Muens denies engagement with murder suspect

Mrs Cora Muens said in Houston that Joseph Wendling never had a real engagement with her despite his advances while he was in Texas. She recalled receiving a postcard from Vallejo urging correspondence but she did not reply and turned the card to Louisville police, aiding in his arrest.

In Sterling Colorado on July 31 Guy Armetrong was killed when 11 year old Will Pedder fired a rifle while Armetrong crouched low to allow a shot over his head. Pedder reported three earlier shots and one final blast that struck Armetrong in the head, blowing off the top.

Crippen and Leneve Arrested Aboard Montrose at Quebec

The fugitives Hawley Harvey Crippen and Ethel Claire Leneve were captured aboard the Canadian Pacific liner Montrose near Quebec on orders from Scotland Yard Inspector Dew. They had fled London after the disappearance of Belle Elmore and were taken to Baggeland for trial on murder charges.
