Albany Oct 2 The case against Albert T Patrick convicted of murdering W M Rice and due for execution August 7 was reopened before the court of appeals. The crime occurred September 23 1969 and Patrick was sentenced May 5 19 On July 24 reargument was granted and execution stayed pending ruling. Hill argues Judge Gray’s son aided in prosecution, claiming conflict of interest leaving the court evenly divided without Gray’s vote.

New York Oct 2 A daring and heroic rescue aboard the battleship Alabama off Provincetown Sag a involved three seamen Wor Branton and Anderson. Andrew Anderson fell overboard while the anchor chain jammed and sank, but he freed himself and struck the ship’s hull. Capt Reeder ordered full speed astern and the seamen rescued the unconscious man from the water using perilous rope work and quick action.
