Closing Day at Two Schools Marks Year End

Two school events cap the year with celebrations. The High School Boosters host an Oct eighth grade reception for faculty and board members at the assembly room, decorated for the occasion. A second event at the Elks Opera House showcases fifty eighth graders promoted to high school with a formal program featuring choruses, drills, solos, recitations, and certificates presented by Superintendent Sterling and other officials.

Uncle Tom's Cabin revue shocks Lecord Street crowd

A revival of Uncle Tom's Cabin staged outside Lecord Street and Lead Avenue drew a large audience with a liberal revised version. The show featured raunchy humor, skimpy costumes, and vaudeville stunts, including a risqué Little Eva routine and a flamboyant Simon Legree. The cast pressed on with uneven scenery and costumes, while a trombone soloist provided the evening's highlight.

Utah Smelters Closed by Strike at Bingham Junction

Salt Lake May 14 Six hundred employees of the United States Mine and Smelter Co copper and lead smelters at Bingham Junction near Salt Lake walked out today after the company refused a flat fifty cent daily raise. The men now earn from $1.75 to $3.00 per day and six copper smelters have closed.

Denver reports an early settlement between the Denver and Rio Grande railroad and its employees. Concessions on wages and hours are cited, with both sides agreeing to changes in the final working agreement. Alderman Hanley To Describe Battle

An evening program for the Presbyterian Brotherhood at First Presbyterian church includes Alderman BP Hanley recounting his experiences at the naval battle off Santiago and naval life in general. Director Elif will play trombone and T Maynard will sing. Members will contribute musical and vocal entertainment. The brotherhood invites all Presbyterians to attend. membership has reached about ninety.

Sierra County Mine Development Update

Paul Larsh of Engie reports active mining conditions in the Cabalio mountain district with shipments of lead concentrates and heavy investment in development. Murder of McComber May Yet Be Avenged

The murder of George W. McComber near the Manzano mountains is linked to cattleman Zemoblo Sanchez, arrested by Mounted Policeman Dudley near Alamogordo on a county warrant. The district court this morning discussed the decree form in Gallup Electric Light Co. vs Gregory Page and the Pacific Improvement Company. It found the Pacific Improvement Company acts as a paper partnership of Page and Gordon to evade a contract with B. C. Allen. Page is deemed effectively connected to the Pacific Improvement Company. The court will determine the injunction scope tomorrow.
