Minority leaders push to adjourn until Monday but face obstruction from council majority. The dispute centers on timing and procedural rules as members clash over next steps and meeting conduct.
Special to The Evening Citizen from Santa Fe New Mexico March 15 reports the minority in the council blocking major bills. Motions to adjourn sparked six roll calls with six to six votes, as Duncan Miera Sargent Sulzer and Stockton pressed for adjournment while Dalles urged a Saturday end. Bills passed include logging, property rights, archeological school funding, street crossings, and venue fee changes. The house amended salaries for county officials, targeting Bernalillo county, while the education bill moved to committee. Senator Sulzer now has a chance to aid Bernalillo county and lower taxes prompts readers to write to him.
Workmanlike session at the Santa Fe capitol with morning and afternoon deliberations on the appropriation bill. Duncan moved to read it second time under suspension, then refer to the finance committee. Dalles sought a whole committee review but failed. The bill then advanced to finance for report while sentiment favored passage. opposition warned of retaliation. Jacksonville March 15 A railroad named the Plant City Arcadia Gulf is extending south from Plant City through Florida to reach the Meninger phosphate Plant twenty miles south of Plant City. The line is now receiving heavier rails and aims to push further south as rapidly as possible through an already settled but sparsely served fertile region.
