New York City Tower Plans Prompt Public Eye Roll

A long critique surveys Singer Manufacturing's proposed Broadway tower near Liberty Street. It mocks grandiose visions, notes the labor by sewing machine operators, and lampoons publicity around Mrs Mizner and Mrs Yerkes Misner. The piece also laments city debt, rising taxes, and fears over municipal ownership while praising Rockefeller’s elusive ubiquity.

Big railway fight in far Northwest

Portland March 6 The 1 cent incorporation of the Washington Northern Railway in Seattle has intensified the clash between the Hill and Harriman interests for Pacific coast trade. Plans show Harriman seeking Seattle port access while Hill expands from Spokane toward Pasco and Portland. Washington Northern crosses the Columbia at Kelso en route to Seattle. Seattle terminals occupy tidelands bought for about 1 million dollars. Hill allies hold Harborfront land valued near 900 thousand.

Port Royal Station to be Abandoned by Navy

Washington March 6 There is no great desire in the navy department to be relieved of further expenditure on account of the abandoned Naval station at Port Royal. It cost nearly $15 000 to maintain the useless establishment last year. The value of the plant could be used elsewhere is less than $990 000 and much of the material could not be sold for money. The Port Royal plant is of no use. The government expects it to be disposed of soon. The navy department is pushing work on the new navy yard at Charleston.
