Victory for 3-Cent Streetcar Fare in Cleveland
In Cleveland on January 28 twenty five thousand riders embraced 2 cent streetcar fares as Mayor Tom L Johnson ends a six year fight against the old monopoly. Legal actions over tracks and franchises clarified by Ohio Supreme Court rulings move toward a holding company plan to unify lines with a 3 cent fare and universal transfers. Mayor Johnson and The Cleveland Press claim a decisive victory, foretelling broader municipal control of public utility transit.
