Head on collision near Fowler injures and kills many
Chicago Jan 19 Passenger train No 38 eastbound and freight No 5 collided head on near Fowler Indiana twenty eight miles from Lafayette about 20 this morning. Deaths and injuries range from twelve to twenty five. The Queen City special carried a baggage car three sleepers and C B Schaaf’s private car. The wreckage burned. all deaths and injuries occurred in the combination car. Schaaf’s wife survived. Schaaf was away from the car. Only Paul D Harris escaped from the combination car. Both trains had orders to stop at Fowler but the passenger train ran by the signal unseen by the engineer.
