Escape of Chenoweth Captivates Silver City Readers

Special Correspondence from Silver City New Mexico reports the Christmas eve jailbreak of Howard Chenoweth from Grant County Jail. Kennedy’s earlier Las Cruces acquittal is cited as fueling speculation of a wide county plot. A masked gunman aided Chenoweth’s escape via a jailer’s removal, with two or more horses used as part of a planned flight toward the Mexican border. Sheriff Farnsworth mourns the disruption as supporters help Chenoweth flee toward Mexico amid a fifty year sentence awaiting on appeal.
