Stickney of the Chicago Great Western argues halving ship time to four and a half days would virtually double railway freight equipment without cost. A sample from Jaffa Grocery shows a can of goods shipped from Oakland six weeks ago. at 10 mph delivery would take seven days, yet actual speed is about two mph. A Cheyenne led syndicate of Wyoming capitalists secured a near monopoly on Mexico's lumber output by purchasing 25 000 acres of timber and forming a new company. Key figures from Cheyenne include Governor B A Brooks and John D Woodruff with various associates, aided by the New Orient railroad opening access to northern Mexican timber. The deal involved a $269 000 cash payment to the United States Trust Company in Kansas City, consolidating control over lumber supplies and signaling future expansion of subsidiary companies.
