A ten mile double tracked stretch near Trinidad Colorado costs the Santa Fe far more than any other hundred miles. Six heavy masonry bridges raise the price as crews of nearly five hundred work on Morley to Starville, with a key Animas river bridge of 210 feet planned. The project aims to ease hill traffic between Trinidad and Raton and should finish before winter.
A syndicate forms to build the Canyon City Plainview & Southern railway from Canyon City to Plainview with aims to extend to Eagle Pass. Key backers include W. W. Chicago August 19 a suit for $1000 in superior court by Dr William A Pratt specialist in optical surgery alleges Cecelia Rhoda actress sought brown eyes to replace her greenish gray ones. An alleged verbal agreement in which Pratt would alter her eye color to dark brown and receive $1000 is described. Progress halted when Rhoda stopped visits after initial operations. Also mentions unsafe health ads and old-fashioned castor oil remedies.
Advertisement proclaims DeWitts Witch Hazel Salve as a universal cure for sunburn skin diseases and piles. Claims include drawing out fire from burns and healing without scarring, with mentions of boils sores carbuncles and safety from druggists.
