Alamogordo machinists in the eastern division have called off a strike that lasted fifteen months with a three month armed truce. The El Paso office said no official notification had been received, and work in the Alamogordo shops has continued under nonunion terms. The El Paso & Southwestern plans a new round house at El Paso, costing about twenty thousand dollars, with capacity for twenty engines and expandable bays. The Interstate Commerce Commission plans to require higher air brake usage on interstate freight trains to reduce accidents from buckling.
The text notes the number of cars on trains with brakes operated by the engineer must exceed 50 percent and that law increases the minimum. It states the aim is eventually to require the use of all brakes on all cars of all freight trains.
