Massive Rainier Summit Climb Records Wave of Women Climbers
A caravan of nearly 400 climbers left Ashford on July 16 in rain for a 14 mile trek to Lonwire Springs. By July 26 at 1:07 PM the last climber reached Rainier summit at 14 682 feet. 98 registered, 44 women, from the West. many dropped out along the perilous trail. The party included four major clubs and a mix of scientists artists photographers and journalists under military style discipline.
