Bisbee Banks Take City Sewer Bonds at a Meeting

At a Biabee oil council session last evening Mayor Caven and Councill men Shat tuck and Logan met with Emerald of the oil banks to arrange for the sale of eighty thousand dollars in sewer bonds used by the city years ago. Local banks agreed to take the bonds at 5 percent annual interest, with repayment after twenty five years and no principal until after five years. The council had earlier advertised for bids, but only a Chicago bid of 380,080 came with no 10 percent certified check, so it was rejected. The finance committee was directed to secure local bank bids and proceed with sewer construction and further, Fire Chief Henkel urged advancing 50 100 in bonds for fire system improvements and six beds for firefighters.

City council approves sewer bonds over fire bond plans

Council members, after consulting Chief Henkel and City Attorney Merritt, decide to issue sewer bonds despite existing bonds totaling 80,000 dollars. The legal review notes bonds equal four percent of assessed property value, with a higher limit possible for sewer projects. Fire-improvement bonds are deferred to fund the sewer system priority.
