Manila Electric Railway and Light Company Expands

The Manila Electric Railway and Light Company operates about thirty miles of track with 60 or 70 cars and plans more. Transfers allow six cent rides across most of Manila. Most conductors and many motormen are Filipinos, with Americans in supervisory roles. New offices and repair shops are under construction, employing only Filipino labor except for the superintendent and foreman.

Artesian Well Owners Rally Against Tax Protest

About twenty artesian well owners met at Roswell court house to plan a protest against a five dollar tax. Dr. H. Skipwith chaired, Geo. M. Slaughter served as secretary and will coordinate with owners citywide for a meeting next Saturday at 1 PM.

Forbes presence sparks spate of marriages in Alamogordo

W R Forbes deputy U S marshal from Albuquerque arrived in Alamogordo to arrest violators of Edmunds indictments. Most defendants posted bonds but a few remained jailed. The marshal's visit and mission stirred a wedding boom in Judge Reilly's court with many couples, mostly Old Mexico citizens living in Chihuahua, affected. Fireman Gleasner of the Santa Fe was visiting en route home to Las Vegas via El Paso.
