Halibut Prices and Storage Weigh on Market Outlook
Petersburg Rotary hears Charles Reardon of the FWS pink sheet describe the halibut market. Nine million pounds of dressed halibut and five million pounds of filets were in storage as of April 30, with imports of cheaper Japanese halibut pressuring prices. He blamed last year’s high prices on a captive contract system and warned consumer resistance may take years to erode. Prices cannot drop too much without hurting holdover stock, while competition from inferior flatfish remains.

Malaspina Goes Westward Visit to West Coast Alaska
Governor Egan announced the MV Malaspina will shift from its Southeast Alaska run for the week of June 12 to 19.
