Bill Passes Extending Wheeler Howard Benefits to Alaska Natives

Eskimo Educator Settles in Petersburg Alaska
Arthur Hanson Eide and wife with daughter Virginia arrive from the North Sea to settle in Petersburg. Since 1915 he has worked with the Bureau of Education in Alaska, built a hospital at Pt Barrow, taught Eskimos, authored two books, and helped pioneer industrial education for natives. He is an experienced upholsterer and interior decorator.

Poppy Day will be observed on Saturday May 23 in Petersburg as crepe poppies made by disabled veterans are distributed on the streets by volunteers from the American Legion Auxiliary led by Mrs. Chas Anders. Liquor Board Revises Regulations and License Fees
The Board of Liquor Control amendments tighten penalties for underage and intoxicated on licensd premises. Licenses now issued only as General Retail licenses priced 150 dollars or 75 dollars for half a year, with half year end date December 31 1936. Applications for towns outside cities require a petition from over half of voting residents aged 21 plus. New rules will be printed and mailed soon.

Ladies' Aid Silver Tea To Be Held At Telephone Exchange

William Mahan Captured in Frisco by Federal Agents
William Mahan, suspected ringleader in the Weyerhauser kidnapping in Tacoma last May, was captured at noon today in San Francisco by federal agents. He was unarmed and carried some of the ransom money.
