Chamber of Commerce Holds Final Summer Meeting
The Chamber of Commerce held its last summer meeting at Sammy's Cafe with regular gatherings resuming in October. The executive committee will handle community matters and a proposal to close Mit kof Highway to hunting to create a game preserve near Blind Slough was discussed. A Fall Creek recreational center survey was announced by J M Wyckoff to improve the area and attract tourists. The group also endorsed petitioning the City Council to place Petersburg on Daylight Saving Time for the summer.

Two Youths Set 6000 Mile Canoe Journey to Nome
Sheldon Taylor and Geoffrey Pope begin a 6000 mile canoe voyage from New York to Nome Alaska aiming to cover most of the route by water and complete the expedition in about 18 months. They travel up the Hudson to Montreal as the first leg and expect to reach Alaska in spring next year aboard a 17 foot canoe equipped with sail.

The Fanana River ice broke at 12 58 yesterday afternoon. Blondie Miller and Oscar Neilson of Anchorage share half the ice pool money, while 44 Juneau miners in the International Union group receive the rest. Iceberg Damages Citizens Dock in Petersburg Week
An unexpected week of incidents in Petersburg began Sunday when a leaking pile driver toppled from the Citizens Dock after a floating iceberg from Frederick Sound and the Narrows drifted ashore. The berg loosened pilings and resisted early dynamite attempts, delaying traffic and docking. By Tuesday a successful charge helped break the ice and the danger subsided, with two nearby houses burned and extinguished by volunteers.
