Public Buildings Administration chooses MacDonald Building Company of Tacoma for a 123080 dollar contract to build the new Wrangell post office and customs house.
Petersburg hosts a Smorgansbord on March 16 from 5 to 8 pm at the church basement with a hot Scandinavian dinner and a Scandinavian Fair. Admission is 75 cents for adults and 40 cents for children, plus a rare exhibit of silverware copperware linen and antiques. Local residents recently welcomed visitors from Seattle including Leo Ness Ole Sjursen Ed Wikan and several others.

At last night's meeting $0.50 had been raised from the first dance Fire Prevention Week and donations, with discussion of equipment and a possible salt water pumping system from the harbor to Main Street to combat a potential water shortage.
London AP reports mounting British fury over German air raids on shipping. Col Josiah Wedgewood, Labour MP, urged投 retaliation by using German weapons on their soil against military targets. He criticized RAF propaganda flights as confetti raids.
London AP reports the Air Ministry says a German bomber was shot down off North Scotland, the second such loss in two days. German claims of British shipping damage were not commented on, while last night three British trawlers reached an east coast port saying they were machine gunned.

Funeral services for Martin Holm 19 son of Mr and Mrs Ole Holm were held Tuesday at the Lutheran Church with Rev Thos A Knudson officiating. Burial followed at Petersburg Cemetery. He died in an automobile accident near Raymond with a friend who was uninjured. Memorials came from Pacific Lutheran College Seattle Ketchikan Wrangell Petersburg. He is survived by his parents two brothers Norman and Oswald and sister Borgny.
The Ketchikan Shrine Band plans a March 16 concert at Coliseum Theater in Petersburg. Thirty band members are signed for the trip with a parade planned that afternoon and a dance after the show if weather allows. The group is due to arrive the morning of the 16th.
In a remarks today Senator McNutt expressed skepticism that social security policy will be altered within the current year, citing legislative gridlock and uncertain consensus among lawmakers.

In Juneau the Southeastern Alaska Basketball Tournament opened with four games. Petersburg's Reliable Happy Tappers lost to Juneau High School 50 to 49 after missing two free throws in the final seconds. Other results: Ketchikan over Chilkoot Barracks 63 to 43. Juneau Krause five beat Sitka 55 to 31. Coast Guard Haida defeated Skagway 44 to 26.
The Customs Bureau announces a ban on importing silver and black fox furs from Canada until December 1 and from other countries until April 1. Canada has exhausted its quota of 58,300 furs and other nations are nearing their limits.
