Salvation Army plans new chapel on Second Street corner
Sal vation Army divisional headquarters approves building a new chapel on a 100 by 100 foot lot at Sec ond and F streets next to the Harry Merriam home. The $30,000 one story structure will have two wings and 3745 square feet, with a two bedroom officer apartment in the large wing. Construction is supervised by L F Lahmeyer and funded by property sales, headquarter funds, and local donations. The old officer's house and chapel were sold this year, with the latter selling for $5,500 to a Sitka mortician after the bidding deadline. The site house was sold to Billy James for removal of usable material.

Ferry Revised Schedules For Petersburg Sitka Route
A revised state ferry timetable issued by Elder Lee adjusts the Petersburg Sitka connection. Northbound sailings now depart Peters burg Wednesday at 12 45 am and Saturdays at 12 45 am except two Saturdays when routed via Sitka. The ship will be in Sitka 30 minutes earlier on those dates, Friday March 15 and Friday March 29. Southbound trips depart Petersburg Thursdays at 8 15 am and Sundays at 10 15 pm, except when routed via Sitka, with noted times 1 15 pm next Sunday March 4, 2 30 am Monday March 11, and 1 30 am Monday March 25, delayed several hours from normal.

Halibut Commission Plans Charter Vessels In 1963
The International Pacific Halibut Commission will charter two vessels for about 120 days starting mid April 1963 from Seattle or Vancouver. One vessel will tag and study halibut on the Bering Sea flats, the other near Kodiak Island. Tender bids due by noon March 20 1963. Airports planned at Wrangell and Petersburg in 1966
Engineers surveyed Roselle Airport sites and a possible Wrangell site last week. State lawmakers said the capital improvements plan funds airport construction in Wrangell and Petersburg for 1966. Wrangell field cost about $560,000 with $350,000 federal aid and $210,000 state funds. Petersburg field about $640,000 with $400,000 federal aid and $240,000 state funds.

An eight member House panel will study potential criticisms of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game following a caucus attended by Governor Egan. The panel, chaired by Rep.
