Fire claims life of Blue Ribbon crew member in Petersburg
Robert H. Baker, a crew member aboard the Blue Ribbon, died in Petersburg hospital shortly before noon Sunday after a fire aboard the vessel early Sunday. Fire alarms and quick response helped control the blaze, with Baker asphyxiated by flames from his bedding. Survived by wife, relatives in Petersburg, son Thomas Baker of Roanoke, and others. Born April 23, 1917 in Glasgow, Montana, Baker served in the Merchant Marine during WWII.
