Marianas based American B29s carried 450 to 500 incendiary bombers to Sasebo Moji Nobeoka and Okayama in a pre-dawn raid. More than 3 000 tons of fire bombs hit these targets marking the 18th city hit in the campaign to burn Nippon from the war. The Sasebo naval dock yard was the key target with shipbuilding and repair facilities.
President Truman told the Senate that world peace hinges on ratifying the United Nations Charter for a world court. He urged the United States to lead and warned there can be no peace otherwise, during a Kansas City homecoming where he received an honorary degree. He planned to present the Charter to the Senate. He also met with Alf Landon in a bid to unite parties behind bipartisan aims.
President Truman announced the resignation of Secretary of State Stettinius and named him American representative on the postwar security council and chair of the U.S. delegation. The president said a successor would be named Monday or Tuesday, dodging questions about James Byrnes.

Petersburg leaders meet with Delbert R. Hanks region executive of the Boy Scouts of America to discuss forming a Boy Scout District of the Alaska Council. A meeting for Legion members and interested locals is set for Friday at 7 30 pm to explain troop district and council relationships. Mr Hanks stresses council organization to sustain active programs and reduce attrition of 14 year olds. Ralph Smith was elected scoutmaster and trained by Mr Hanks in troop fundamentals.
Miss Rae Burke announced two registration days for the center with sessions on Monday 2 to 4 30 p m and Tuesday morning 9 30 to 12 for children planned to attend the summer program starting Thursday July 5.

It says Alpine troop divisions guard Agutta Island near Attu and paratroopers are deployed in the north as Admiral Fletcher’s Ninth Fleet awaits a chance to strike from the north. A light US unit attacked a Japanese convoy in the Sea of Okhotsk.
Bar Net crew Barney Johnson and James Con set sail from the North Sea on Saturday aiming to fish tuna off southern waters. They depart with hopes of a rich catch and return soon.
A full one day program for July Fourth in Petersburg features a parade at 4 PM led by a color guard with Coast Guard, Boy Scouts, and local fire department float units. Chinese forces say they captured the main airfield in Linchow’s southern suburbs and retook the city’s railway station from Japanese control. Heavy fighting is reported in the western and northwestern outskirts as troops move toward the center and toward Kwangsi’s key city of Kweiling, about 100 miles northeast.

Admiral Nimitz reported limited enemy bombing near Okinawa with no damage.
Mrs. Ole Holm left Wednesday for the South to visit her son Norman before he goes overseas. She will await word from him in Seattle and hopes for a brief visit with him before his departure, plans to go to Long Beach later.
Seattle June 29 AP Col Conrad Pp Hardy said 700 German war prisoners will be moved to Excursion Inlet Alaska to recover 12 million board feet of lumber and 3 million dollars of other material. The port facility, built as a transshipment point, cost 18 million and covered 630 acres with quarters for 4460 personnel.
Anis Sir Frank Wyant, arrested June 21 on a warrant issued May 29 for an alleged assault on Olof Tenfjord, was found guilty after a jury trial last Friday. He stood trial with counsel Dan Alston, called two witnesses, and was sentenced to 60 days in federal jail. An oral appeal was filed and bond set at 500 dollars.
The local All-Stars defeated by Coast Guard 9 to 8 in a Sunday game. Ed Switzer the Coast Guard catcher fractured his wrist early, a possible factor in the defeat. The contest featured sloppy late innings with wild throws by the All-Stars.
Pan American Airways announced the resumption of Seattle to Ketchikan air service starting July 1 with 16 weekly DC-3 flights landing at Annette Island. Passenger and personnel quarters will operate by mid July and transfers between Ketchikan and Annette Island will be provided via Ellis Air Lines.
San Francisco June 25 AP Joe E Brown film comedian just returned from a 38000 mile tour on the set and battle fronts. He says fighting men abroad disapprove of persecution of Americans born Japanese here, calling it terrible and horrible. He cites round table discussions on the subject.
