Alaska’s 1936 mineral production valued at 22.9 million dollars exceeds all years since 1918, driven by higher output and prices. Gold and copper lead the gains as analysts say the rate could be sustained or improved in future years, despite favorable but stable operating conditions.
Alaska enacts a Territorial Sanitation Code governing food establishments and dairies. It requires annual medical examinations for all employees by a licensed physician and immediate dismissal if contagious disease is found. Certificates must be kept by employees and shown to health officers on demand. Forms and instructions are being printed for arrival with health officers soon.
Jimmy Mattern announced plans to fly a new 100000 dollar monoplane in a non stop attempt from Oakland to Moscow. He may refuel over Fairbanks and fly solo over the pole to Russia, not following the Vancouver bound route of three Russian fliers. He tested the plane yesterday and aims to start between mid July and mid August.
Los Angeles report says Marian Beard, 20, regained her baby daughter after attempting to sell the unborn child to her sister in law for hospital bill payments. The judge ruled the mother had no legal right to sell the child and the purchaser was equally in error.

A tentative plan calls for work to begin shortly after July 1 on the Territorial Experimental Fur Farm located about nine miles south of Petersburg on the Mitkof Highway. Dr. Jules B. Loftus will lead the station, moving to Petersburg, with a committee including Gov. John Troy Regional Forester B. F. Heintzleman and Frank Dufresne selecting the site by July 1.
