Senator Hugh T Butler plans an amendment to the statehood bill proposing Alaska elect its own governor secretary and auditor for four year terms starting with the 1952 general election. The amendment will be offered as a substitute when the Senate acts on statehood legislation.

The event is Sunday at Sandy Beach from 2 p.m. Transportation by Vets cab available at 30 cents per person for five per cab. Meet at Vets stand by 1 45 p.m. Coffee koolache and cream provided. attendees bring lunch.
A family picnic at Sandy Beach next Tuesday evening at 5 30 rounds out this years Emblem Club activities. Ann McDonald chairs a fun evening with potluck and supervised games for children by Helmi Jensen. If bad weather, the Elks Club will host. Announcements name Jean Hamner as next year’s chaplain and Dorothy Israleson as marshal.
Petersburg officials warn that any chain letter is illegal under postal fraud and lottery statutes. Recipients may forward copies to the postmaster for inspection, with local publicity to deter chain letters and inform the public that all forms are prohibited.
The Bureau of Fisheries boat Penguin II docked at Scow Bay Canning Company this week with supplies for stations including Pribilof Islands aboard and 40 passengers. Among them were Dr. James McGinnis and Dr. Harry Brewer en route for conferences with James Leckley at the Experimental Fur Farm. A group of specialists from Alaska Experiment Stations and Washington State Experimental Station conducted an official visit to the Experimental Fur Farm to review work and set up a mink project at Petersburg. A U S Navy Neptune patrol plane from Patrol Squadron 2 crashed on landing at Kodiak Alaska last Friday. The pilot Lt(JG) Ben W Severn of Midland Texas was killed. Crew members W H Crawford of San Bernardino Calif and R E Houk suffered serious injuries. The crash prompt response by the Kodiak Naval station Crash and Rescue unit saved the remaining crew. the plane was destroyed by fire.
English fans paid 10000 pounds to watch the Harlem Globetrotters at Wembley during the first week of a European tour sponsored by an American firm. The tour, facing an American all-star team, visits England France Belgium the Netherlands Italy Germany and North Africa after a near perfect 1951 season with 154 games 1 loss.
Women of the Moose announce the next initiation Monday June at the Moose Hall. Doris Wilson and Justine Clover coordinate the event with Gertrude Gribble in charge of the chapter night program and entertainment following the initiation.

American Sabre jets shot down two Russian made jets and damaged three in two battles over North Korea. The Fifth Air Force reported Red losses this week at 11 planes shot down, one probably destroyed and 17 damaged. About 89 jets fought in the engagements within 12 hours of the first fire bomb attack on UN troops.
