Gold Rush Pioneer Hugo Stoll Buried at Elks Cemetery
Hugo John Stoll 74 died June 17 after cancer related illness. A Petersburg resident since 1924 he was chief engineer at Petersburg Cold Storage for decades. Stoll came to Alaska in 1898 and once ran a mail dog team between Nome and St Michael. He helped on the Alaska Railroad during the golden spike event with President Harding. Survived by two daughters Eleanor Thomassen and Anita Weinmann and a son Fred Stoll. Services held at the Elks lodge hall at 2 pm conducted by Rev Edward Hughes with pallbearers Ralph Hall Werner Israelson Tom Thompson Elmer Whitethorn Knut Thompson and Dave Westerberg.
