Petersburg Post of the American Legion urges a Fourth of July celebration in Petersburg under Legion sponsorship. A committee led by Dr Warren Bailey plans sports and entertainment with activities for children. the Volunteer Fire Department hosts a dance July 3 and the Legion gathers the crowd on July 4.
Peter Philbin describes his year with a military police unit near Calcutta. He notes only inspected eateries were safe due to cholera risk, whites were targeted by locals, and troops were herded from streets during February riots. He and fellow Alaskan servicemen traveled by boat, with British MPs sharing patrols early on.

Albert Heimdahl, class of 1946, son of Mr. and Mrs. A O Heimdahl, has received a four year Centennial Scholarship valued at 500 dollars from Pacific University Forest Grove Oregon. The award, open to high school graduates nationwide, covers tuition and enables completion in three years with summer sessions. Albert plans a pre medicine course at the Oregon school and Pacific University lists Charles Dick as its alumnus music teacher in Petersburg.
The United States proposed a four power military commission with Britain China and Russia to disarm Japan for 25 years. The plan would replace the American led occupation under General MacArthur and shift control of Japanese affairs to an international body. Byrnes also proposed a 25 year treaty for Germany with foreign ministers.
Foreign ministers from the United States Britain Russia and France reach tentative plan to defer a decision on Italian colonies until year end or refer the issue to the United Nations if divisions persist. The move follows Byrnes May proposal and aims to clear stalled peace negotiations.

He envisions a gradual unification of Alaska’s school system with 6,500 Native Service and 7,000 Territorial students currently enrolled.
Brooklyn congressman Donald O'Toole denounced the Louis Conn bout as a national fraud and scam and urged the New York Boxing Commission to investigate. He asked purses be held up for those swindled, while promoter Mike Jacobs retorted O'Toole only cries foul after ticket rejection. O'Toole warned he would sue for 100000.
The Senate confirmed General Mark Clark’s permanent rank of major general overcoming protests that he misused lives at the Rapido crossings in Italy. Two Texas senators opposed after criticism from the 36th Division, largely Texans, echoed the charges.
Montreal June 21 AP reports Fred Rose a communist member of Parliament was sentenced to six years in prison for illegally sending information to Russia during the war. He still faces charges under the official secrets act.
