Alaska villages to fish under Interior plan this year
Three Alaska villages Angoon Kake and Metlakatla will be allowed to install and operate ten traps as the Interior Department moves to support fishing rights pending court or congressional action. The Alaska Supreme Court recently banned the traps, while Interior seeks to appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court. In Juneau the Southeastern Conference directors will meet to discuss plans for talks with Canadian officials and the International Development Commission. H L Cochrane of the Federal Power Commission met Petersburg officials on power generation.

ADFG Board Member Pleads Guilty to Violation
An Alaska Department of Fish and Game board member pleaded guilty to fishing with unlawful gear after a complaint by protection officer Doug Blanchard. The incident occurred on Stikine this week. Assistant Attorney General Avrum Gross represented the state. a $500 fine and net confiscation were ordered. Also reported is the death of Duncan Neil MacDonald, 83, of Wrangell, with survivors in Petersburg and Wrangell.

Popularity Contest Announced For Fourth of July Queen
