Forrest Fryer named by the Petersburg Chamber of Commerce to represent the area at the British Columbia Board of Trades meeting in Prince George B C June 21 and 22. He will travel to Ketchikan join a SE Alaska chamber group and fly to Prince Rupert then train to Prince George. Fryer chairs the local road committee and will present the Stikine Highway project. Ed Locken had earlier been named but withdrew at the C of C meeting.

Four Nabbed in Halibut Theft Case
U S Deputy Marshal Jack O Connor captured three juveniles and David Charles this week over alleged halibut theft from Leif Stromdahl s vessel Astrid. Charles arraigned on petty larceny charged. fined 100 dollars and given 120 day suspended sentence. Investigation continues into gear theft from local halibut boats.

Logger Injured At Patterson River Camp
Denny Madden of Petersburg was critically hurt when a load of logs rolled on him at the Mear Logging camp near Patterson River. Alaska Coastal pilot Bill Stedman airlifted Madden to Petersburg hospital and he was later flown to Seattle's Swedish Hospital. Mrs Hammer, nurse on the trip, said Madden arrived safely and Mrs Madden and two daughters had traveled to Seattle two weeks earlier.

Jensen and Son Win Airplane Ramp Contract
Odin Jensen and Son of Ketchikan were the apparent low bidder for an amphibious seaplane ramp and turnaround at Petersburg. The bid stood at 105 382 dollars with Stock and Grove of Anchorage second at 118 340 dollars. Work should finish in 165 days, likely after July 4, on the site of the old Petersburg Lumber Mill that burned.

AT&T Begins U S Alaska Cable Project
The American Telephone and Telegraph Co launches a 15 million dollar transmission system to Alaska. The cable ship Albert J. Myer sails from Seattle to lay the line to Ketchikan linking with existing Territory facilities. The cable supports 36 conversations and includes underwater amplifiers at 40 mile intervals claimed to operate trouble free for 20 years. Completion is expected next fall.

Fish and Wildlife agents netted nine Wrangell gillnetters for fishing in a closed area. Joe La Violette was acquitted due to engine trouble. Alaska health boat concludes chest x ray drive
The MV Hygiene from the Alaska Department of Health left Petersburg after three days in port with medical staff performing chest x rays. About 660 people were x rayed and 75 to 80 retakes were necessary. Prior testing of 380 local children for tuberculosis was negative. Public Health Nurse Ben Erickson notes roughly 100 people outside town may have been involved and local coverage in tracing the disease has been strong.
