The CE Council postponed its meeting due to the Seattle Chamber of Commerce tour and considered multiple items. A vacancy was declared for Councilman Carl Anderson after 60 days absent, with election postponed to the next meeting.
Executive officer Frank Dufesne of the Alaska Game Commission arrived aboard the Seal at port last Friday to inspect and endorse a proposed Experimental Fur farm site. The site seven miles south of Petersburg near Mitkof Highway was approved by Dr. J. B. Loftus and Frank Heintzleman, with L. T. Oldroyd and Dr. R. W. Trullinger also backing it. The area drains to tidal waters and offers creek access suitable for water piping. The Seal then heads toward Juneau and the Alaska Peninsula as muskox restocking research continues on Nunivak Island after Greenland imports acclimate near Fairbanks. Clarence J. Rhodes will join in Juneau.
Carl Vevelstad departed Tuesday evening aboard his gasboat Portia with local boys to spend the summer mining on his Yakobi Chichagof and Baranof Islands property. The group includes Ingval Vernes Clarence Delegard Shirley Deveney John Oyen P Hansen Gordon Jensen and Bob Elkins as he aims to train them as miners.

Petersburg resident Otto Welde died last Thursday at the Veterans Hospital in Portland Oregon after moving there months ago His brother Peder Welde of Petersburg rushed to be with him The body rests at Portland Veterans Cemetery He was born June 19 1887 in Bendalen Norway came to the United States in 1910 lived in Minnesota before World War I served in the Engineering Corps in France moved to Petersburg in 1924 to work in carpentry and construction He is survived by daughter Dianne Welde of Juneau sister Mrs Kolsvik of Norway brothers Olgar of Norway Alex of Onamia Minnesota and Peder two nieces and a neph ew Mrs Arnold Wasvick Ruby Welde and Kenneth Welde residents of Petersburg
In the Magnificent Chateau de Cande near Monts France Edward Duke of Windsor and Wallis Warfield wed on June 3 with no royal attendance. British government interference kept church blessings away. Hosts were Mr and Mrs Charles Bedaux. The couple planned to travel to Austria then Alaska.
In Petersburg Alaska on June 11 word spreads of a large turnout from Wrangell Sitka and Juneau for a barn dance at Johnny Sales Barn. A special attraction is a minute pool unseen locally and city slickers are warned they will be treated as outsiders.
Mr. and Mrs. A. Ketcham visited the Press Office during the Northwestern port call. He ran the Peters burg machine shop for 28 years and identified its former site next to the Hammer and Wikan Building now owned by Jas H Wheeler. He listed old residents and praised Petersburg's growth.
Joseph Ruth age 43 walked into police headquarters and asked to be arrested saying he felt like hurting somebody. He was accommodated. A card in his pocket showed recent discharge from Manhattan State Hospital.
Washington reports Robert Fechner advances a big expansion of the Civilian Conservation Corps in Alaska. Enrollees rise from 329 to 600, with Native Indians and Eskimos prioritized. camps will size 20 or 40, work includes emergency airfields and local roads, under Forest Service supervision with Army only as paymaster.

Dredging will clear mud from the mer side and a shelf toward the small boat harbor and is due soon in Petersburg.
Zeppelin Company reports about 2.4 million dollars in insurance paid for the Hindenburg disaster. The dirigible cost 8 million dollars to build and a further 10 thousand dollars per passenger is expected for each of the 36 victims who died in the explosion.
