After a cold Sunday and a Tuesday pre-showing of summer, residents brace for heat. A plan suggests dampening streets to ease dust and a Sign at the ferry terminal to guide people. Rumors say a figure in a maxi coat and mini bikini may visit on Father’s Day and Grandfather’s Day.
Mrs Bea Espeseth public health nurse outlines three immunization clinics on June 19 26 and July 10 for infants weights and ongoing series. Parents are urged to ensure kindergartners sixth graders and high school seniors receive up to date vaccines for college and general protection. Call 772 4611 for infant weighings and appointments.
At Monday’s meeting council members backed Stark’s plan to connect H Street to Sandy Beach Road near the airport runway to improve traffic flow to the Sandy Beach area and suggested a water line loop along the old boardwalk route.
City Council and state highway engineer clash over routing of a new highway from the ferry terminal to Sandy Beach. The state favors the present route while the city proposes a back route behind the Municipal Building, citing exits and impact on homes and businesses. A special study will be conducted.
A visitor to Alaska reports 500 entries statewide for the Annual Children’s Summer Art Show at Alaska Methodist University. Seventy five works were selected including Peters burg pieces by first graders Lorena Glenn Brian Christen Dar lene Hall of Margit Smith and second graders Anita Van Alsdorf Tommy Sutton Newton Lambert Nathalie Bosworth Johnny Kirk of Mrs Housley. A fourth grade tissue collage by Tricia Hutchinson of Alice Longworth rounds out the entries with diverse media praised for originality.
The Braves Little League team spent a couple hours Sunday cleaning trash from the ballfield. Participants included Mark Sharp Dana Roundtree Keith Kvernink Scott Olsen Doug Homer Tim and Todd White.
