CAA engineers Griffin and Miller survey Point Agassiz site in Petersburg for a two runway airfield. Runways one mile long and 500 feet wide will be laid out to suit land contour with a radio tower on Thomas Bay two miles away. The project aims to serve defense and postwar air mail across Alaska from Ketchikan to Fairbanks.

Alaska Game Commission party travels from Ketchikan to Juneau
On Sunday June 1 a Game Commission plane ferried Earl Ohmer to Ketchikan to meet the flagship Brown Bear and the Far West patrol boat. Frank Dufresne executive officer and Mrs Dufresne accompanied the group returning from a state-organizations tour. Crouch head of the Game Division was aboard with his wife and son. The party discussed Alaska Game Commission work and arrived Petersburg at 5 PM Monday, the boat then proceeded to Juneau after a three hour stay.

Massive Ketchikan Fire Destroys Alaska Steamship Warehouse
A large fire at the Alaska Steamship Company warehouse in Ketchikan last Wednesday morning gutted the building and caused about 75000 dollars in damage. Tenants in nearby apartments escaped by ladders as the blaze spread rapidly. several businesses including Walker Drug, Alaska Steamship offices, Charles Insurance, Hunts Book Store, and Kubley’s Liquor Store were badly damaged and will be out of business temporarily. Coast Guardsmen aided fire crews but contents of the buildings could not be saved. the fire was under control within an hour.
