Army Says Dumped War Gas No Problem

The U S Army maintains the 948 tons of mustard and lewisite gas dumped in the Bering Sea 276 miles from Amchitka pose no danger to the area. Gov William A Egan disputes this, demanding full dumping details and factual evidence since the 1961 dump. An Atomic Energy Commission spokesman backs the Army, noting significant seismic activity near Amchitka has occurred without linking to the gas. The report follows Alaska politics and coastal safety concerns.
