Ed Dahl, Alaska resident and longtime handyman, dies at 65

Ed Alfred Dahl died of a heart attack at 65 after collapsing Saturday while working at Kite's Kave. Born in Emdahl Norway on April 25 1902, he lived in Seattle and Alaska, leaving a son Jerome and his family. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church and donations were asked to a Swimming Pool Fund. The American Legion plans to rename Post 14 to Edward Locken Post in memory of WWI veteran and charter member.

Wrangell Ferry Boat Steward Missing On Fishing Trip

A wide search by sea and air continues for Tom Ireland, chief steward of the M V Taku, missing since Friday night after departing Wrangell for a fishing trip to Prince of Wales Island. The Coast Guard and Stikine Air Service have conducted extensive searches in fair weather with no sightings. Ireland, a Wrangell resident with a wife and daughter in town, is a Marine High.

Mrs Hollingstad Hospitalized in Seattle for Broken Leg

Mrs Jonas Kathy Hollingstad is under treatment in Seattle after a fall left her with a broken leg. Her address is Virginia Mason Hospital for cards. The Sarah Magill Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church will hold a picnic dinner and Bible study at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday hosted by Maud Martin. a brief business meeting will be included. The gathering will be the final one until September.

Multi Million Lumber Mill Planned For Afognak Island

Gov. Hickel announced a five million dollar Afognak Timber Co project to build a spruce mill and permanent community on Afognak Island. The operation targets 40 million feet annual output and will ship lumber via Wrangell Lumber Co. with a 10 year initial contract.

Charity Box to reopen money for new season

The Charity Box in the fill area by the Kayler Dahl cannery approach resumes Monday afternoon, hosted by the Petersburg Hospital Guild as a second hand store. Proceeds support Petersburg General Hospital. Summer hours are Mondays 1 pm to 5 pm. The churches plan cooperative worship through summer with Ep iscopal and Presbyterian services rotating between Wrangell and Petersburg locations.

Foresters Gather in Alaska for SAF Annual Convention

More than 100 members of the Society of American Foresters and guests from British Columbia and the Yukon meet in Alaska for the SAF Alaska Chapter annual convention. The SAF includes professional foresters from private industry and state and federal governments.
