The course covers placer methods and geochemical prospecting alongside strategic minerals and the use of the gold pan. Leo Mark Anthony of the school of mines will instruct.
A group of local artists and former landscape oil painting students of Miss Kal la Skrovseth will display three pictures each at the Hobby Shop. The show runs from Friday through next Friday with small cards naming artists and painting titles for public viewing.
The All-Alaska Chamber of Commerce endorsed two of four resolutions presented by Mrs Bernice Stokke at a Monday meeting in the Pastime dining room. The resolutions urged harbor dredging in Alaska and a ferry service between Haines and Prince Rupert BC. A 40 minute color Italy film followed her report. a pensioner sister, Mrs Dora Gillispie of Auk Bay, is listed as survivor for a deceased Waydelich buried in Petersburg cemetery.
Funeral services for Paul Waydelich were held Tuesday afternoon at the Salvation Army Chapel with Captain Arthur Smith presiding. Waydelich died December 24 after a lingering illness at his Petersburg home. He was born January 29, 1901 in Juneau and spent most of his life in Petersburg. His wife Emma Paul Waydelich preceded him in death. he formerly worked as a fisherman and shrimp picker.
A new non-emergency contact line for the Petersburg Chief of Police has been issued this week, now listed as 581. The notice appears under Town of Petersburg records confirming the update.
A Rot ary luncheon is set for Wednesday at 12 10 pm. Square dancing occurs Thursdays at Moose Hall for members and guests. The Town Chorus meets Wednesdays at the high school music room at 7 30 pm.
Mrs Bernice Stokke earned a hearty reception Monday at the Chamber of Commerce for promoting Petersburg at the All Alaska Chamber meeting. Her self funded trip yielded two adopted resolutions: ferry service from Prince Rupert to Haines and dredging of the boat harbor. Congress man Russell Mack notes a plan to lower the tariff on fresh crab.
The Moose basketball team coached by former Viking Tom Wanberg beat the Elks 61 to 57 in a tight game to stay unbeaten. Earlier they cruised past the Vikings 58 to 36, with the Thursday match finishing in a close finish as players battled for lead and momentum.
