Fairbanks’ Lathrop High Malemutes beat Juneau-Douglas 68 to 63 to claim the Holiday Jamboree title. Steve Frank was tournament MVP with 31 points. Petersburg Vikings finished third after edging Kodiak 83 to 70, with coach Stephen Eberly praising a turning point in a 6-6 season.

PFI Buys 8500 Crabs From Viking At Adak Sale
The 110 foot Viking unloaded 8500 king crabs at PFI on Sunday December 26. Skipper Carl Perovich said Adak fishing was excellent with three trips totaling 300000 pounds. Viking sailed to Cape Ommaney then Petersburg to sell, earning 7 cents more per pound.

Weather delays stranded 2800 pounds of Christmas mail between Petersburg and Kake. The Bittersweet from Cape Henlopen, aided by Mayor Phil Carlson and Petersburg Postmaster Mildred Counter, loaded the mail and medicine and delivered it to Kake after a night voyage from Petersburg.
