Stevens seeks ban on foreign fishing off Alaska shores

Bristol Bay Salmon Runs To Be Managed For Maximum Escapement

Juneau Alaska Board of Fish and Game adopts policy to manage Bristol Bay and Alaska Peninsula red salmon for maximum escapement citing weak 1974 Bristol Bay sockeye run and heavy Japanese harvests. Emergency orders will restrict fishing time to protect escapement targets of about 9.5 million versus an expected five million red salmon in 1974.

Petersburg Shares in Satellite Experiment

A $650 000 grant funds Alaska state participation in a two year National Institute of Education project to run ATS F satellite experiments starting June 1974. Governor Egan notes broadcasts will aid elementary education and offer valuable satellite operation experience for future cost and programming considerations. Charles Northrip has led full time effort since August with one year of satellite time anticipated.
