Fire Victims Receive Aid From Petersburg Residents
The James family, whose home was destroyed in a fire, will return soon thanks to local generosity. About 300 dollars was raised in contributions along with plasterboard windows and other aid. Ceiling repairs are underway and rooms regain walls, with some outside work remaining.

Alaska Brewing Co and Georgia Pacific Alaska Co asked the Territorial Board of Administration for tax exemptions under the 1957 Industrial Incentive Act. The timber firm seeks relief for a 50 million pulp and newsprint mill on Douglas Island near Juneau, while the brewing firm seeks relief for an 800 thousand dollar plant in Anchorage. Production is slated for next May with about 750 jobs and a five million dollar payroll. The Anchorage council and school district oppose local property tax exemptions. No final board action expected until after the New Year.

Petersburg Hotel and Restaurant Bioreer Dies
Carl A. Rogers, Petersburg hotel and restaurant operator, died last Friday afternoon. Born in Sweden in 1882, he came to the United States in 1904 and moved to Petersburg in 1916 to run the hotel. Survived by wife Elizabeth and two daughters Mrs. Howard White and Mrs. Lloyd Pederson. Funeral services from Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. J. A. Luthro. burial in Petersburg Cemetery.

Inauguration Date Delayed for Governor-elect Egan
The inauguration ceremony for Governor-elect William Egan has been moved from January 10 to January 17 by the Democratic central committee to allow for a day-long observance.
