Wrangell topped four Southeastern Alaska high schools Petersburg Kake Monroe in a weekend holiday basketball tourney in Petersburg. Wrangell beat Kake 87 34 and 59 47 while Monroe defeated Kake 77 41. Petersburg beat Monroe 81 50 and Wrangell 59 47. Top Wrangell scorers were Tom Ivy 14 Gil Urata 13 and Jeff Vareagh 16. Petersburg’s Bob Hammer led with 35 points in one game and Ken Ringstad 15 in another. Monroe struggled with discipline, drawing five technicals including two on the coach.
