Petersburg Chamber of Commerce President E. J. Haugen urged members that an outdoor pool at Blind Slough recreation area could be ready next year if a site is chosen. Six possible sites exist. best near the Smikum Club. Plans include a 160 by 170 foot pool up to 5 feet deep with a wading area and dam, plus parking and picnic facilities.

The Petersburg area is expected to see mostly lens with periods of rain and temperatures between 35 and 50 degrees over the Christmas week. Highs in recent days reached 42 and a low of 18 occurred last Monday, with about 4.10 inches of precipitation in the past week, most falling in a three day stretch through Wednesday, plus five inches of snow recorded.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. John S. Vanatta in Petersburg Alaska. The 57 year old widow died of a heart attack at home Friday night. She was born Alice Powell in Savannah Georgia on December 6 1903 and later lived in California New Mexico and Washington before moving to Alaska three years ago. Survived by her husband two stepsons two stepdaughters and two brothers including Judge Bob Powell and attorney Jack Powell.
