The Petersburg Lutheran Church Sunday School presents a Christmas program on Sunday evening December 22 starting at 7 o clock. Organ Prelude by Mrs Wilimer Oines.
Members of our organization extend warm holiday wishes and express gratitude for the many courtesies shown to our firm in the past. We join together to acknowledge and recognize the assistance and support received, and we send best wishes this Christmas season.
A church program features the Junior Choir singing Hark The Herald Angels Sing and Into My Heart, with Marilyn Myren leading The Christ Child Is Born. Primary, Grade I to IV sections perform songs such as Silent Night, Jesus Loves Me, Away in a Manger, My Wish, Not Too Young, A Birthday Cake for Jesus, Gems About Jesus, Little Christmas Trees, Best of All, Messengers for Jesus, and a Christmas tableau Silent Night with scenes of Mother Irene Wasvick, angels, Mary Joan Lindstrom, Joseph Norris Swanson, and other children.
Bruce Jones leads a Christmas offering and distribution of Christmas boxes during the Joy to the World service. Ushers for the service include Kenneth Thynes Arthur Myren Bobby Lloyd and Norris Swanson.
A mile long Avenue of Christmas Trees in Altadena California features Deodar Cedars from the Himalayas. Seeds were collected in India in 1882 by Capt Frederick J Wood and planted on a California ranch. His sons transplanted the two foot seedlings along the wire driveway to the ranch residence.
Jewish history recounts the 165 B C victory of Judas Maccabees over Syrians in Jerusalem. The purification of the temple began, and on Kislev's 25th day the sacred light burned eight days, guiding the annual eight day celebration before December 25.
The area now a busy public thoroughfare features Captain Woodbury's seedlings illuminated each year at Christmas, attracting thousands of visitors annually.
