Mrs Carroll Clausen, production chair of the local Red Cross, reports the fourth monthly shipment of V neck army sweaters to Juneau. Eighteen sweaters are in this batch, with nine sent in October and ten in November. Volunteers have completed sixty six sweaters since September, with more on the way.
At Petersburg Lodge of Masons Friday election of officers for the coming year selected Worshipful Master Barney White and four line officers. Appointive officers include Claire Wilder and Hugh Jones with installation set for Friday evening January 8 1943 by the incoming Worshipful Master.
Rangvald Stenslid has completed a four course pre flight program at St Mary's College California and is now at the Naval Reserve Aviation Base in Pasco Washington. He is among 245 Naval Aviation cadets who graduated the week of November 26 after three months of physical conditioning sports drill and intensive military training.
U S Army Air Force officers report on Kiska showing Japanese troops still digging in. December 11 U S bombers and fighters attacked a refloated ship at Gertrude Cove and strafed Japanese in a rowboat and along the shore as they fished and toiled near the coast.
No one has registered for the Nurses Aide course sponsored by the local Red Cross. The course trains aides to assist nurses and doctors and has been popular elsewhere. Nurses Aides are badly needed to help Mina Olson, superintendent of Petersburg Hospital.
Mrs. Lester Wingard was installed last Wednesday as Matron of the local Eastern Star chapter in a candle lit ceremony attended by members only. Officers including installing officer Mrs. J L MacKechnie and chaplain Mrs. George Beck were installed, with music by Louise Grafe and singing led by Lillian Swanson. The gathering featured a Roll Call, social tables, and Christmas cookies as the new matron spoke after installation.
Tass in Geneva reports Italian demonstrators in Naples smashed windows at the German consulate. Across Italy anti German outbreaks have occurred in various areas during the last ten days.
The interpretation of Amendment No. 34 imposes a tire rationing regime for old tires, allowing only certificate holders to use them. Individuals with old tires may not sell or give them away. At a Wednesday meeting the Girl Scouts outlined a Christmas party. Arliss Warwick was chosen to head the food committee. The group thanked attendees of their Silver tea last Saturday for helping make it financially successful, allowing payment of bills and a balance for future projects.
The Lutheran Church hosts a Christmas program Sunday evening December 20 at 7 o clock featuring recitations by Marilyn Myren Lynn Warwick Judy Brennan and others, a manger scene with Mary and Joseph, shepherds and wise men, and songs like Hark the Herald Angels Sing and We Three Kings. A silver offering and Christmas boxes for children are included and all are welcome.
Allied troops in New Guinea beat off Japanese counter thrusts against two posts at Buna. The Southwest Pacific command's air force aided ground troops in tightening the ring around the shallow beachhead. Twenty Japanese were killed and one captured.
Fairfield Utah reports rising hope for the two men who survived Tuesday's Western Airlines crash over the Utah mountains. Seventeen people were killed. Robert V. Mallett of Springfield Arkansas is said to be somewhat improved after two years as a clerk in the United States Engineers in Ketchikan.
The Office of War Information announces 16mm sound films from its Bureau of Motion Pictures are available to schools and communities via Washington distributors. Service charges cap at 50 cents for the first subject and 25 cents for each additional film. three films total about one dollar, with transportation paid by users.
Following the regular meeting of the Sons and Daughters of Norway last night a social gathering was held with cards as the diversion of the evening. Buffet refreshments were served.
The town team meets Army Navy tonight at 8 o'clock in a rough ball game. Waite's nine will feature Palmer Pederson and Ernest Enge with strong support from Earl Rosvold Ben Jensen. The Service squad, led by Longworth Schwartz and Choate, aims to upset the Huskies in a hard fought tilt.
