A. EB Schoettler supervisor of vocational education for Alaska visited Petersburg this week aboard the Govern ment motorship North Star. He discussed enrollment in Elementary Navigation classes meeting Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays at 7 p m and spoke of optional exams for pilots masters and third mates if sufficient interest is shown. He noted sewing and gardening may be added next spring and attributed sewing lack of interest to holiday proximity. He then proceeded to Wrangell and Ketchikan and will return to Juneau. he praised Alaskan pilots for skill in variable weather aiding travel between interior locales.

Arctic Arrives With Supplies in Petersburg
The steamer Arctic reached Petersburg Tuesday at 1 30 AM with the first cargo since the maritime strike began. About 200 tons of freight, including 2 tons of cold storage goods, were unloaded at Citizens' Dock after the vessel waited at Scow Bay due to a snowstorm and low tides. The Arctic planned to sail for Juneau and the Westward and return for southbound freight mid next week.

At the Investiture Service in the American Legion hall about twenty nine Scouts and twenty five to thirty parents attended. Thomas Winsor officiated as Stoutmaster. Billy Stedman Tom Thompson and Laurence Molver became the first Scouts to earn First Class badges since the troop reorganized in Petersburg. Tom Thompson earned a Merit Badge in swimming. The Boy Scout calendar gifts were from People's Drug Company. The Christmas party is set for December 19 at 8 pm at the American Legion hall with Donald Lewis as general chairperson and Mrs Knut Thompson coordinating entertainment and gift exchanges. Each Scout will bring a girl friend.
