Christmas Ship Denali Delivers Gifts to Territory
The Alaska Steamship Company Christmas Ship Denali sailed December 15 with gifts for 8000 children along 1500 miles of coast. In each port a Santa Claus appearance and music from the ship’s loudspeakers will greet callers. Kenneth Cross will host as Howard Morgan portrays Santa. The voyage stops include Ketchikan Wrangell Petersburg Juneau Skagway Haines Yakutat Kodiak Seldovia Seward Valdez Cordova and other ports. Christmas day finds the ship in Seward.

North Light Safely Rescued Near Tyee After Rudder Loss
Three passengers from Petersburg to Tyee aboard the 50 foot vessel North Light were marooned in Herring Bay for days after losing their rudder. Coast Guard cutter Hemlock and pilot Trygve Hansen from Alaska Island Airlines located the ship and evacuated the passengers to Tyee. W T Brown later traveled from Petersburg to rejoin his party as weather allowed.

Harold D. Torget, a World War II veteran and Sitka post member, was honored in funeral services at Petersburg Lutheran Church with Rev. Thomas Knudson officiating. Wolves Poisoned on Revilla Island in Two Sets
Hosea Sarber reports 12 wolves dead on Revilla Island in Ketchikan district, poisoned by two trappers Sarber and Disney. Ten wolves died in a 40 yard radius in one set, two in another, a record for this method. Sarber prepares two 55 gallon barrels of poison for shipment to the Interior program.
