Alaska Trollers' Organizations Explained
Last week trollers met in Ketchikan to clarify the relationship between the Alaska Trollers' Association and the Alaska Trollers' Union. The union arose from a Ketchikan local move to affiliate with the International Seamen's Union of America. A May meeting approved the steps, creating the Alaska Trollers' Association as before and maintaining the union as an auxiliary with its own funds. The two will remain one organization while the union accepts the association as its auxiliary. they become separate only if the union rejects the auxiliary role or declares independence. Open meetings run through February 15 with a referendum by members on the constitutional name and status, ballots counted February 15. The aim is to decide how trollers will be organized for next fishing season.

Bovine Birth Aboard S S Yukon At Petersburg Dock
The S S Yukon docked in Petersburg at 7 30 am with a cow en route from Seattle to West ward about to calve. Captain Glasscock called on Earl Ohmer Elmer and Ray Swanson to assist. Doc Ohmer and two helpers delivered the calf with crew aid. The Yukon sailed for Juneau about a half hour late. The calf's condition was not confirmed.
