School election suit in offing in Petersburg
Petersburg residents may face a court test over who can run for or vote in the Petersburg School District board election. VISTA lawyer Mike Adams says a test case is being prepared arguing that state funding justifies voting and candidacy rights beyond city limits. The school board also debated full-time kindergarten for 1971 72 and approved librarian Ruth Sandvik to attend a state conference.

Loader Crash Kills Two Construction Workers
Two construction workers died when a 13 ton front end loader skidded on icy Mitkof Highway and overturned into a pond last Wednesday night. Donald E. Kaatz, 35, of Fairbanks and Ronald Edward Lindley, 40, of Ketchikan, were killed as the cab was crushed. Their bodies were freed with a welding torch. Burgess Construction Co. employed both men and they were in Wrangell to pick up gravel for a road job.

Forest Service road contract on Prince of Wales Island
South Coast Forest Products won a 2.6 million dollar contract to build a 13 mile Forest Service road on Prince of Wales Island. Owner Bob Day says the project will connect Craig Klawock to Thorne Bay, expanding the local road network and raising firm employment to 30, mostly Petersburg residents. The Big Salt Road bid was 2,643,487.20.

City pool to open early May with new swim rules
