Rescue Plane Reaches Army Plane Wreckage
Elmendorf Army Airfield reported that a land rescue crew reached the wreckage of two P-38 fighters after an aerial collision during routine maneuvers of the 11th Air Force near the Susina River ten miles from Anchorage. Both pilots apparently died instantly. A dog team led by Stanley J. Hundors of Mulato was flown to Goose Bay to join the rescue effort.
