Tony Schwamm to Train Pilots in CAA Program
Mr and Mrs Tony Schwamm of the Petersburg Air Service returned Wednesday after a six weeks trip to the States. He flew to Seattle October 27 then to Chicago to visit relatives before a Seattle stay for plane overhaul. He then went to Los Angeles for CAA flight instruction and blind flying course in Oakland. A two place Taylor Craft plane used for instruction was shipped east to west on floats. Schwamm plans a CAA training program here with ground and flying courses for men ages 18 to 25 at little or no cost beyond physicals and insurance. He passed flight and physical tests for a Naval Aviation Reserve commission in Seattle.

Satko trip east proves futile for Alaskan homestead bid
Paul Satko of Juneau says a Washington trip to seek new lands for Alaska homesteading was unnecessary. He learned the same goal could be met by asking the Forest Service in Juneau to classify land as suitable for agriculture. Satko plans to sail back to Juneau via Seattle and says he does not want his family involved if authorities act after a prior April court order.

Pioneer Wrangell resident D H Campbell dies at 79
D H Campbell 79 longtime Wrangell figure and Klondike era pioneer died after a week long illness in Wrangell. Born 1861 in New Perth Canada he worked as a carpenter and later built many town buildings. He served as Deputy U S Marshal through four presidents and helped lead local civic life. He is survived by two sons in Wrangell and three brothers in Victoria and New Perth. Funeral services were held in Wrangell last Tuesday.

$70 000 Laboratory Dedicated in Ketchikan
Governor Ernest Gruening spoke at the dedication of the $70 000 Fisheries Technological Laboratory of the Fish and Wildlife Service in Ketchikan. Charles Jackson noted the lab will develop new uses for Alaska fisheries products and that three such labs exist with others planned in Maryland Connecticut and Puerto Rico. Maurice Stansby was named Director of the Ketchikan lab, with a staff of four, as Alaska fishery regulations were being prepared for 1941.
