Walter Liggett publisher of the Mid west American weekly political paper was shot and killed December 9 near his Minneapolis home. He had denounced Governor Floyd B Olson and warned of danger to journalists exposing corruption. Liggett once edited the Skagway Alaskan and wrote The Frozen Frontier.

Italians Bomb Am Hospital in Dessye Raid
Italian planes bombed Dessye last week hitting the Emperor Selassie palace and the American Seventh Day Adventist hospital. Civilians suffered heavy casualties while the hospital evacuated moments before the raid. a Belgian officer and a Norwegian nurse were wounded. At Wrangell the first division Democratic convention endorsed the Roosevelt administration and Territorial officials with Delegate Dimond. Jack Hellenthal of Juneau was named national committeeman and Mrs. Georgia M. Holzheimer of Juneau national committeewoman. The body sought more divisional representation and named Mrs. Mary Torkilsen and A B Holt as potential candidates. Mrs. Torkilsen was endorsed as a delegate to the Seward Convention in January.

Four bids on Petersburg street wall project revealed

The Parent- Teachers Association met with a Rev A O Aasen talk on Matanuska and Glee Club selections. A committee chaired by Lester Wingard was formed to buy gym equipment from current cash on hand. Welfare and Ladies' Aid committees donated 20 for Christmas welfare work, added to prior contributions. Committees were named for auditorium curtains with 60 for purchase. Tuberculosis Xmas seals were mailed to Petersburg residents to raise funds.
